I’ve always been intrigued by Paul’s advice to the Romans when he said this, according to The Message version of the Bible: So this is what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life–your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life–and place it before God as an offering.
This means, I believe, placing our house cleaning, laundry doing, our dinner cooking, our tooth brushing, our grocery shopping, our grass cutting, our errand running and an infinite list of unexciting tasks before God, and saying “Here. For you from me.”
Not always easy.
Because so often our attitude (okay, my attitude) is less than enthusiastic when I’m doing these things, it has always seemed more than a tad unnatural to me…Until I read an article by leadership coach, Dr. Karyn Gordon, where she offers some great tips to help us actually find joy in the mundane tasks of life. In fact, she says, we can ALL learn how to find joy in tasks that are important to do, whether or not they excite us.
Have a listen to find out exactly how we can make this happen!
