My friend Eric and his family have been caregivers for his mom in their home for several years. When I asked him about the most valuable way people have supported them in their journey, he surprised me by saying, “it was when people said, ‘I see you. I see how hard it is. I see how much you love your mom, and I understand how much you’re sacrificing to take care of her.’”
I’ll bet you could list a slew of people you know who are helping to give care to someone right now. And it’s true, there are so many ways to help a caregiver: bring food, do household chores, cut grass, lots of physical help that is so very valuable. But just as important, as Eric said, is emotional support—the reassurance that they’re not alone. That they are indeed “seen.”
So. What does that look like? This episode will show you just that–a few ways you can help a caregiver to not feel so alone.
